Accomplishments
JUNE OF 2017 TO JUNE OF 2018. A BUSY YEAR!!
Programs
- Held a Volunteer Appreciation & Cherry Tree Planting event
- Held a public program with Dr. Barbara Johns about her book “The Hope of Another Spring”
- Sponsored a children’s Japanese cultural immersion week long summer day camp
- Held a Day of Remembrance ceremony
- Held a public program about Densho with the Executive Director Tom Dean
- Sponsored three Japanese cultural half day workshops
- Held a public program with Mayumi Tsutakawa from Washington Humanities
Outreach
- Exhibited at the three day Seattle Japanese American Cherry Blossom Festival
- Supported the Heritage Museum Japanese Americans on Vashon exhibit “Joy and Heartache”
Education and Research
- Held 18 open houses
- Conducted house and grounds tour for 140 McMurray 7th grade students
- Developed five storylines to support our interpretation programming and communications
- Conducted research on items to archive as well as historical facts and stories
- Progressed on creation of a collections policy and Past Perfect software usage
Operations
- Hired a part-time administrative assistant
- Reduced our past property tax liability as well as our future payments
- Completed the transition to Quickbooks and a new bank
- Adopted historic preservation guidelines for interpretation and rehabilitation
- Contracted with an archeologist to monitor digging on our historic grounds
- Contributed to the County’s purchase of the fruit barreling plant
- Disposed of a large amount of non-historic materiel left by the previous board
Communications
- Updated our logo, tag line, branding, webpage, and social media platforms
- Grants
- Submitted a significant capital grant request to the State for FBP renovation funding
- Received grant fund from Colonial Dames for staff support
- Awaiting decisions on three grant applications to 4Culture and the National Trust
Fund Raising
- Received $250,000 appropriation from the State legislature and over $60,000 in major gifts
House & Garden
- Completed a pedestrian and vehicle circulation plan; contracted for work to start in August
- Complete electrical upgrade; front porch significantly stabilized; replaced furnace
- Contracted with a construction company to restore the north garden water feature this August
