The Friends of Mukai encourages attendance at the Voice of Vashon's new documentary series "The Japanese American Presence on Vashon - Part 1". It will be shown at Vashon Theatre on Tuesday, November 20th at 6:00pm. The show traces the evolution of Japanese Americans on the island from early farm laborers in 1900, through their integration into the larger Vashon society, and concludes with the shameful 1942 exclusion, known euphemistically as "The Evacuation", when 115 Japanese Americans (tow-thirds of them…

Come join us for a Japanese tradition of mochi making to celebrate the New Year! Mochi is Japanese rice cake made of sticky rice called mochigome. Mochi is made by a series of process from the original shape of rice. They are first steamed and pounded into a form of mochi.
