Vashon friends – come join us fold origami cranes to support Nikkei activists and allies from across the country in nonviolent protest outside the South Texas Family Residential Center.
The Friends of Mukai will hold “Paper Crane” folding party on Monday, March 18, from 3:30pm – 6:30pm at Mukai Farm & Garden. Origami paper with folding instructions will be available. Adults, youths and children – all are welcome to come fold the cranes!
Stop by for a few minutes to fold a couple, or stay longer to fold more! Or drop off cranes you folded.
The South Texas Family Residential Center, an hour south of San Antonio, is a 2,400-bed facility, the largest such detention facility in the nation.
We will mail all the cranes to Texas – a Japanese American pilgrimage group will go to the facility’s fence on March 30 and hang thousands of cranes to demonstrate solidarity with the women, children and separated families inside (more info here: https://bit.ly/2T3attT).
If you can’t make it to our crane folding party, there are a couple of other opportunities in Seattle:
